Swap
Marvel changes plans: The Marvels and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania have new release dates
Marvel Studios is once again changing its schedule for its upcoming releases by swapping the dates of two of its upcoming Phase 4 films.
The Marvels, Captain Marvel's sequel, and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, the third installment of Ant-Man's adventures, have swapped their theatrical release dates, giving rise to a new Phase 4 schedule in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Now after this adjustment, The Marvels, which was supposed to hit theaters on February 17, 2023, will now be released on July 28, 2023. Meanwhile, the new Ant-Man and the Wasp movie, which was supposed to be released on July 28, 2023, will now be released on February 17, 2023. This was reported by Variety following the latest announcements from Marvel Studios.
A new change of dates in the MCU
Although The Marvels and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania swapped their release dates, Marvel Studios has not explained the reason behind this new change in its Phase 4 schedule. However, it is suggested that the production of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is fully completed, while the production phase of The Marvels is taking longer than expected.
This new change also suggests that these two films may not be as connected to the rest of the MCU films in terms of plot, so such a swap should not pose any continuity problems.
From both films, they are expected to continue the stories of characters introduced in the Marvel series released on Disney+. As for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, there is speculation of the return of Jonathan Majors (Loki) playing the evil variant of He Who Remains, Kang the Conqueror. On the other hand, The Marvels is expecting the arrival of Teyonah Parris as the adult Monica Rambeau (who we met in WandaVision), as well as Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan (who we will see as the main character in Ms. Marvel).
Let us remember that the other major Marvel Studios confirmed release for 2023 is Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which filming continues with James Gunn at the helm, and which maintains its release date for May 5, 2023. This leaves an open slot within the final stretch of next year for one of the announced projects still without a release date, which could be Blade, Captain America 4, or Fantastic 4.
