Star Wars Ahsoka begins production | What do we know about The Mandalorian spin-off?

Lucasfilm has officially announced that filming on the series has begun; we round up the main information related to the next Star Wars series.

Star Wars Ahsoka begins production | What do we know about The Mandalorian spin-off?

In November 2021, Production Weekly reported that Star Wars: Ahsoka would start shooting in March 2021; later, The Hollywood Reporter clarified that it would be in April. However, the date they shared was not entirely accurate, as Lucasfilm has announced that production has just started. It has done so through social media: "Ahsoka, an Original series, starts production today," they said in the message.

The tweet is accompanied by a photograph that unfortunately does not show Rosario Dawson as Ahsoka Tano. It is an image of the set and the director's chair, which appears with the name of the series engraved on the back. Another interesting detail is the hat hanging over the back of the chair, a sign of identity of Dave Filoni, creator of the character and one of those responsible for The Mandalorian and all the spin-offs of this series. In this article we will examine the following:

  • Release window
  • When is it set?
  • The synopsis of Ahsoka: a villain from the past.
  • Will Hayden Christensen return as Anakin Skywalker?
  • Ahsoka's past

Release window

Star Wars: Ahsoka will not debut this year on Disney+, but all indications are that it will debut sometime in 2023. In an extensive report published by Empire, Lucasfilm confirmed that the series is scheduled to follow the third season of The Mandalorian. The latter will continue the adventures of Mando and Grogu after their episodes in The Book of Boba Fett, the first spin-off. The Mandalorian has no confirmed premiere date yet, but filming has concluded and Disney's schedule lists it as a 2022 product.

When is it set?

We don't know if there will be several timelines or flashbacks, although the series itself will take place in the same era as The Mandalorian. In other words, the storylines will take place several years after the events narrated in Return of the Jedi. As such, the Galactic Empire no longer exists, though its mark still remains indelible throughout the galaxy. The New Republic has taken control as the new custodian of security and peace, but its situation is complicated; the threats looming over it, remarkable. The decay of the Imperial troops continues, even though the First Order of the sequels has not yet been formed.

The synopsis of Ahsoka: a villain from the past.

Ahsoka Tano seeks out Grand Admiral Thrawn, a classic character from the old Star Wars canon who was resurrected in the new Disney canon. In addition to the novels, he appears in Star Wars: Rebels and is mentioned in the episode dedicated to Ahsoka in the second season of The Mandalorian. Thrawn, of the Chiss species, has blue skin and reddish eyes. Along with Darth Vader and Tarkin, he was one of the main pillars of Darth Sidious' Empire. Leaked synopses also point to a reunion between Ahsoka and the missing Ezra Bridger, one of the main characters of Rebels.

Will Hayden Christensen return as Anakin Skywalker?

The bond between Ahsoka Tano and Anakin Skywalker was so strong that it is unthinkable that he would not be explored in this series. At the moment, Lucasfilm has not confirmed Hayden Christensen's involvement, who played the young Skywalker in the prequels and will now return as Vader in Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi. However, The Hollywood Reporter claimed some time ago that the actor is part of the cast. In The Book of Boba Fett, the meeting between Ahsoka and Luke is charged with emotion and symbolism.

Ahsoka's past

Those who have only seen the movies may not know that Anakin Skywalker took a Padawan into his care. Ahsoka Tano was born as one of the protagonists of the animated series The Clone Wars, where she became one of the favorite characters of the fans of the saga. The chemistry between master and apprentice is evident, as well as her tendency to bend the rules. In fact, the Jedi Council decided to have Anakin train Ahsoka to try to soften the rule-bending tendency of each other... it didn't work out. The Tugruta woman left the Jedi Order after she was falsely accused of murdering a person. She survived Order 66 and helped the Rebellion. Her story continues.
