A FIFA from NBA 2K's creators? The company answers in an elusive way

EA Sports and FIFA will not renew their partnership, which has been in place for almost 30 years. As of next year, Electronic Arts will abandon this brand and will use the name EA Sports FC. It remains up in the air which company will take over the name after 2024. One that has appeared in all the pools is Take-Two Interactive and its sports label, 2K Games. In a recent interview with IGN, CEO Zelnick Strauss was tight-lipped on the matter, but said they are exploring all opportunities that may arise in the near future.

"We're definitely interested in expanding our opportunities in sports, and FIFA has a great brand and incredible clout, but we have no current plans to discuss," Zelnick replied. During last Monday's shareholder meeting, Zelnick reminded that the license is available and that they tend to reflect on the business "at all times". According to the executive, they are "excited about building their sports business", but they do not have "much to say about it at this time".

FIFA's plans

FIFA issued a statement on the decision not to renew their agreement with EA Sports. The president of this soccer institution, Gianni Infantino, revealed that the saga will return with another publisher: "I can assure you that the only authentic, real game that has the FIFA name will be the best one available for gamers and football fans," he said.

According to FIFA, working with other companies will provide "more options" to players, so they are negotiating with "leading publishers" and investors for the launch of FIFA 24, which if all goes according to plan should appear at the end of 2024. It should be noted that the license is still in the hands of Electronic Arts, so the 2022 edition of this franchise will be marketed under the name FIFA 23.
