Update:
Star Wars: The Acolyte reveals its place in the series timeline: all the details

The Acolyte is one of the confirmed Star Wars series, the first set during the period known as the High Republic. This era, which has been explored in novels and comics, will be brought to the small screen by Leslye Headland, co-creator of Russian Doll. In an interview with Vanity Fair, the showrunner has informed that the scripts are finished, although the series is now in the process of searching for its stars. Something that had not yet been revealed is at what specific moment in the chronology it takes place, a mystery that has now been solved.

The High Republic is a period that spans several centuries and is notable for the peace and (relative) prosperity of the Galactic Republic. However, in recent years, a change of cycle was already being detected, as the political system began to collapse. The story of The Acolyte will take place 100 years before Episode I: The Phantom Menace. "A lot of those characters haven't even been born yet," Headland stressed. In fact, Master Yoda is one of the only protagonists from the classic films we've seen in these products, as his life expectancy is about 1,000 years. Maz Kanata, from the sequels, also appears.

What happened in order for a Sith to infiltrate the Republic?

Among the topics that will be touched upon are politics and even the spiritual side. "My question when watching The Phantom Menace was always like, ‘Well, how did things get to this point?’ How did we get to a point where a Sith lord can infiltrate the Senate and none of the Jedi pick up on it? Like, what went wrong? What are the scenarios that led us to this moment?"

According to Headland, The Acolyte is a mystery thriller set in a prosperous and seemingly peaceful era. "We actually use the term the Renaissance, or the Age of Enlightenment. The Jedi uniforms are gold and white, and it’s almost like they would never get dirty." The idea is that they have "these types of uniforms" because they rarely get involved in "skirmishes."

Star Wars: The Acolyte has no release date announced yet. Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi, Andor, The Mandalorian Season 3 and Ahsoka, among others, will be released first. Take a look at all Star Wars series coming this 2022, here.
