Star Wars: all the new series and upcoming seasons on Disney+
We take a look at all the products Lucasfilm has in the pipeline, the newly announced series, as well as confirmed release dates and windows.
Lucasfilm has found in Disney+ its ideal platform to develop and continue Star Wars series, ranging from animated ones like The Clone Wars to live-action ones like The Mandalorian. Stories that are more relaxed, without the constraints of a feature film, according to their own creators. However, the galactic saga will also continue in film format, with several products already confirmed. After a Star Wars Celebration full of news, it's time to take a break and look at the products that are in the pipeline.
Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi has been released, but the calendar for 2022 and 2023 is loaded with adventures in the galaxy far, far away.
Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi
Ten years after Revenge of the Sith, Obi-Wan Kenobi feels defeated. He lives on Tatooine as a hermit and watches over young Luke Skywalker from the shadows. However, a friend from the past asks for his help and he leaves the planet to embark on a new adventure. Unaware of his former apprentice's true fate, the Jedi master discovers that Darth Vader is still alive.
Star Wars: Andor - Season 1
A few years before the events narrated in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, the Rebellion was beginning to outline its war plans. At the height of the Galactic Empire, the character of Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) is an intelligence agent. Tony Gilroy's new series will present a story of action and spies within a universe that will move away from the Manichean conceptions of good and evil. It will have two seasons in total.
Star Wars: The Bad Batch - Season 2
After Order 66 was instituted, the clones obeyed because they had an inhibitor chip in their brains. They betrayed their comrades-in-arms and killed their Jedi friends. The Bad Batch takes place shortly thereafter, although a little more time has passed since the end of the first season. The members of Squad 99 are "defective" clones, so they have some characteristic abilities. The adventure of Crosshair, Hunter, Tech, Wrecker, Omega and company will continue in a few months.
Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi
This is an anthology series using the art style of The Clone Wars. Each of the episodes will star a Jedi from the prequels, such as Ahsoka Tano, Mace Windu, Count Dooku or Qui-Gon Jinn. Interesting news is that Obi-Wan Kenobi's master will be played again by Liam Neeson, the same actor who brought the character to life in The Phantom Menace.
Star Wars: The Mandalorian - Season 3
In The Book of Boba Fett, the first spin-off of The Mandalorian, we were able to enjoy the reunion between Grogu and Din Djarin, better known as Mando. Both characters will embark on a journey of redemption that will lead them to Mandalore, the home planet of the Mandalorians (which we remember, is a cult with its variants, not a species). Bo-Katan will return as one of the antagonists, or at least that's what is hinted at in the teaser trailer that Lucasfilm has shown behind closed doors. The series has been renewed for a fourth season.
Star Wars: Ahsoka - Season 1
Ahsoka Tano returns to live action after her stints in The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett. Anakin Skywalker's apprentice will be reunited with old acquaintances. Ezra Bridger, Sabine Wren and Hera Syndulla, from Star Wars: Rebels, will make an appearance. In the background, a villain well known to fans of the old canon, who was reintroduced into the new one through Rebels and other products. Grand Admiral Thrawn, Palpatine's right-hand man alongside Darth Vader and Tarkin, will be the main antagonist.
Star Wars: Visions - Season 2
Japanese animation shorts created by different studios and without any link to the official canon. This is the proposal that Lucasfilm developed in the first season and will continue to explore in a second batch of episodes. The idea is that those responsible for the stories have creative freedom to develop their concepts without constrictions, which is why they can be placed at any time in the chronology without fear of breaking the chronology or the events of the canon.
Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures - Season 1
Centuries before the Skywalkers, the High Republic reflected a time of prosperity. This new era of the saga has been explored in novels and comics, but will also be explored in television series and video games. One of the announcements at Star Wars Anaheim Celebration 2022 was Young Jedi Adventures, an animated series aimed at a children's audience starring Jedi initiates during their years of training to become padawans.
Star Wars: Skeleton Crew - Season 1
Little is known about the plot of Skeleton Crew, beyond the fact that it will take place in the same timeline as The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett and Ahsoka (after Return of the Jedi). The series will feature Jude Law and a group of children as the main characters. Previously known under the codename Grammar Rodeo, it has been unofficially defined as the Stranger Things of Star Wars. Dave Filoni, Jon Favreau, Christopher Ford and Jon Watts will executive produce a fiction "as much for kids as The Clone Wars," according to Filoni.
Star Wars: The Acolyte - Season 1
The first live-action series set in the High Republic is a thriller that explores the final years of this era of splendor. It will take place some 100 years before The Phantom Menace, before the galaxy's political system began to show ominous signs of corruption. The Jedi still wear golden, lustrous robes, as it is a reflection of an era of lights that actually hides an ever-growing darkness. Filming will begin in 2022 and has no confirmed release date yet.
Star Wars: Lando
It has not been canceled, but its production is not moving forward. Lando was announced during the 2020 Disney Investor Day along with other proposals. Of all those names, Rangers of the New Republic will not go forward, while this new series waits for Donald Glover's schedule to clear a bit. The actor who played the character in the movie Solo: A Star Wars Story seems to have his hands full, at least that's what Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy suggests: "You need to ask Donald. He's the one that holds all the cards here."
