Resident Evil 2, 3 and 7 upgraded to next-gen; available now
Capcom's presentation confirms the release of PS5 and Xbox Series X|S enhancements to some of the latest installments of the Resident Evil saga.
Capcom unveils one of the surprises of its presentation: some of the installments of its horror saga are updated on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3 and Resident Evil 7 have received a patch dedicated to take advantage of the latest console generation. The three games can now be enjoyed with technical and graphical improvements free of charge for those who already own a copy of these installments. After its confirmation a few months ago, now the company surprises us with its publication.
During the Showcase, it has been confirmed that all three games receive 4K and better framerate, ray tracing and 3D audio. In addition, the improvements will be completely free for those who have previously purchased the game on PS4 and Xbox One. Finally, it should be noted that PC will also receive a patch with visual improvements in all the aforementioned titles.
Capcom's future with Resident Evil
The franchise has concentrated in this month the main news regarding the immediate future of the franchise. June 2's State of Play brought us the return of Resident Evil 4 in the form of a remake. March 24, 2023, is the date chosen to return to the most terrifying town in the saga. 17 years separate us since it was released on GameCube.
We know that the story "will be reinvented" while retaining "the original essence". They expect the experience to be "familiar to fans of the saga", although they also warn that they will offer "freshness" throughout the adventure. Their reveal trailer speaks for itself: the graphical muscle and the change of tone are two of the elements that stand out from this brief glimpse.
On the other hand, the presentation also brought us the PSVR 2 support for Resident Evil Village. PlayStation's virtual reality device will have among its ranks the last numbered installment of the series. Unsurprisingly, it incorporates changes to offer an immersive experience. Fans will not overlook the possibility of carrying two weapons at the same time. As with Resident Evil 7, Capcom renews its alliance with the Japanese firm in this field.
