The Last of Us remake shows off Tess' new look and splits the community

Naughty Dog continues to share on their social media the differences between the remake of The Last of Us that will arrive this year on PlayStation 5 and the remastered version of PS4 and 2014. This time it is the turn of Tess, Joel's companion. A smuggler by profession and a survivor by obligation and nature, the character will continue to be played by Annie Wersching.

"Annie destroyed us with her performance as Tess," commented Neil Drunckmann, co-president of Naughty Dog, on networks. "Love that we get to better show off her acting chops with Part I!"

Among the community, a new division has not taken long to emerge between those who are delighted with the result and those who prefer the nostalgic factor of the original model, which they see as younger and less obvious in its expressions. A similar thing happened with Ellie, whose age and emotions seem to have changed. Precisely that, the faces and modeling of characters and enemies, is one of the big changes of the remake, made from scratch for PlayStation 5.

The big goal is to be at the level of the real actors behind the motion capture and match cinematics and gameplay. 2013's The Last of Us and its 2014 remaster featured pre-rendered sequences that enjoyed much higher visual quality than the rest. In TLOU: Part I both moments will look just as good and will look even better than the cinematics of that one.

In any case, the remake will not only bring graphical improvements, but also playable ones. At the controls, the game will be more like The Last of Us 2 than the original game. "We've implemented modernized gameplay, improved controls, and expanded accessibility options in this single-player experience to allow even more individuals to enjoy the game."

The team will also take advantage of the new features of PS5 and “Leveraging the PS5’s powerful hardware, we also implemented 3D Audio, haptics, and adaptive triggers. Both returning fans and new players alike will have the opportunity to experience both The Last of Us Part I and its prequel story Left Behind in a whole new way.”

The Last of Us: Part I will be released on September 2 on PlayStation 5.
