We interviewed Quentin Correggi, associate producer of Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope.

Update:
Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope's AI aims for the player to anticipate, without being predictable

Last week we had the opportunity to travel to the city of San Francisco, California to test first-hand Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope, Ubisoft's next release for the Nintendo Switch. At this event we had the opportunity to chat with Quentin Correggi, associate producer of the strategy video game that combines the endearing Nintendo characters with Ubisoft's noisy rabbits.

Is not necessary to have played Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle

Despite being set in the same universe, Quentin assured us that it is not necessary to have played the first installment, as it is a completely different experience.

Adaptable difficulty

The difficulty is one of the points that the producer emphasized the most since it was a crucial point for the development team since they always wanted the title to be entertaining for both novice and veteran players. Therefore, there is the possibility of modifying the difficulty level to adapt it to the player's preferences.

A balanced artificial intelligence

One of the main challenges in Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope was to find a balance between good AI without being frustrating, so they wanted the player to be able to anticipate what the AI is going to do, without neglecting the fact that the AI is predictable. In fact, much of the focus is that each enemy has its own identity both visually and in gameplay.

Resolutions

Another of Correggi's claims is that the game will run at 30 FPS at 1080p resolution in dock and 720 in handheld mode at the same frame rate per second.

Characters with specific skills

As with the enemies, the gameplay design was even more careful with the characters, as each one has specific abilities that generate a good combination at the moment of having our combats in real-time.

Edge is Quentin Correggi's favorite character

Although he could not give us more details, the producer confirmed that the new protagonist of this franchise is his favorite because she is "super cool" and he hopes that someone can find inspiration in her.

The 3 DLC

About the downloadables, Correggi revealed that the first one will be a new game mode and the other two will be story expansions. In fact, it was recently confirmed that one of them will integrate Rayman into the game.

Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope will be available on Nintendo Switch on October 20.
