The Super Mario Bros. Movie shines a light on the Nintendo universe with the first official trailer

The day has finally arrived and the time has come to attend the world premiere of the first trailer of The Super Mario Bros. Movie, the new animated film based on the Super Mario universe by Illumination, responsible for The Minions. And it happened with a colorful and promising trailer that you can see below these lines and immerses us in an endearing world created by Nintendo, from a point of view never seen before and with a more than striking level of animation.

This is what the Super Mario Bros. animated movie looks like

Through a new Nintendo Direct dedicated solely and exclusively to The Super Mario Bros. Movie, we have been able to enjoy the first sequences of an animated film that promises to give a blow on the table at the level of quality and originality, finally bringing the famous franchise of the Big N to an unprecedented format, such as that of the blockbuster films.

This first trailer shows us an imposing Bowser arriving in an icy world inhabited by some endearing penguins who prove to be very bad-tempered, although they can do little against Bowser and his army of Koopas. After taking over one of the iconic stars of the Nintendo franchise, we see how Mario lands in a colorful universe, the Mushroom Kingdom, where he is greeted by a histrionic Toad. And of course, the trailer closes with a frightened Luigi running away from some evil skeleton Koopas.

Directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic (collaborators on Teen Titans Go! Teen Titans Go! To the Movies) from a screenplay by Matthew Fogel (The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part, Illuminations's Minions: The Rise of Gru), the film stars Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong, Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek and Sebastian Maniscalco as Spike.

The film is produced by Illumination founder and CEO Chris Meledandri and Shigeru Miyamoto for Nintendo. The film will be co-financed by Universal Pictures and Nintendo and distributed worldwide by Universal Pictures.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie will be released in theaters on April 7, 2023.
