Electronic Arts confirms the next installment of The Sims now that The Sims 4 becomes free-to-play for everyone and shares some images and details.

Update:
The Sims 5 (Project Rene) is now official: estimated release date, multi-screen, customization…

Eight years after The Sims 4, Electronic Arts, EA for friends, has confirmed that it is already working on a new installment of the saga, for now, known as Project Rene. According to Lyndsay Pearson, the creative vice president of the franchise, we are facing "the next generation of The Sims as a game and as a creative platform".

Although there are not many details shared about The Sims 5, in the first images of the game we can see, for example, the return of the customization tool of The Sims 3 (evolved, logically). With it, we can not only choose the material and pattern of the furniture but also put a different color to each and every one of the pieces that compose them. You can even rotate the objects on the Z-axis! An option in The Sims 4 is only available exclusively through a mod.

The Sims 5, or Project Rene, will also seek to be "more collaborative" and it seems that it will enhance and multiply its online features. The current Sims Gallery will be revamped to make sharing our creations easier than ever (although knowing the Sims 4, it will not be difficult). We will even be able to share screen with multiple devices to, for example, use the mobile as help and command in games that we are watching on TV through the console or our computer. When is The Sims 5 coming out?

Now comes the million-dollar question, when can we expect The Sims 5 or Project Rene? We're afraid it's a long time away. EA and Lyndsay Pearson are talking years. "Over the next couple of years, we’ll continue sharing updates with all of you on Project Rene. We’ll share in-progress work, explorations, sneak peeks, and behind-the-scenes content, as well as start to open up early access to Project Rene software to small groups over time. This is super early for us and we’ve never shared information about our games years before they launch to the world but we’re so excited to take you on this journey with us."

We will always have Paris, or in this case, The Sims 4, which has gone free-to-play this week.
