Resident Evil 4 Remake finally reveals gameplay footage

This time around the village looks even creepier and full horrible Ganados

Update:
Resident Evil 4 Remake finally reveals gameplay footage

During the latest Resident Evil Showcase, Capcom saw fit to finally reveal an extended look at Resident Evil 4’s remake gameplay. Showing what many fans will recognize as the opening moments of the game in which Leon first ventures into a village full of horrors, this footage leaves clear that a lot of work has been put into this game.

The trailer (which was presented around the halfway point of the presentation) showcases Leon exploring a seemingly abandoned cabin in the woods. Featuring a dark and dreadful ambiance, the cop-turned-agent delves deeper into the building until he finds the corpse of one of his escorts. Immediately after, a Ganado comes shambling down the stairs, and we see the gameplay shift to shooting, hiding in the shadows, and trying to stay away from the crazed locals to try and survive.

But apart from this pretty spectacular trailer that shows gameplay up to the legendary village fight where the chainsaw wielding Dr. Salvador makes his first appearance, the showcase went on to reveal much more. From detailed looks at characters like Luis Serra, the spanish researcher that helps Leon during the first part of the game, and Ada Wong, seemingly back from the dead, to monsters and villains like El Gigante and Ramon Salazar. Of course, they all look fantastic and modernized thanks to Capcom’s RE Engine.

Even more importantly is the confirmation that everyone’s favorite NPC, the Merchant, is back in full force for the remake. Often considered one of the campiest and “out there” aspects of the game, it’s good to know that the beloved character is back with a thick accent, a robe full of guns and ammo, and plenty of stuff to sell during our adventure.

This presentation also showed that while the game will stick very closely to the original’s plot, it’s also not scared to try new stuff. Plenty of new mechanics were shown, like a stealth option to move through the environment and a parry mechanic in which Leon uses his knife (now apparently breakable) to defend himself.

Resident Evil 4 will release worldwide on March 24, 2023, on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
