CoD Modern Warfare 2: release times, multiplayer launch, and everything you need to know to start playing

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is preparing for its long awaited launch. After a whole week of early access to the campaign, players on consoles will be able to leap into the story, multiplayer and co-op from 00:01 of the 28th of October 2022, local time in your region. But please be patient: Infinity Ward has advised against changing your region to play before your time.

Here’s everything you need to know for the release of the game.

What’s the schedule for Modern Warfare 2?

Starting on October 28, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will follow a strict schedule that basically delivers the experience slowly until the holidays, when the entirety of the content is live. The preseason will be extended until November 15. During this period of time, players will be able to work their way through rankings in both Multiplayer and co-op. There won't be an active battle pass until the preseason ends, so this is a perfect moment to finish the story campaign and receive a good amount of rewards.

One day after, on the 16th of November, the first season begins alongside the release of Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 in its Free to Play format. This game will have the beloved battle royale mode, as well as a new mode called DMZ that rumors suggest is heavily inspired by extraction shooter games like Escape from Tarkov. You’ll be able to have cross-progression in the inventory between Warzone 2.0 and Modern Warfare 2.

The last release in 2022 will come on the 14th of December, when the first episode of Raid Mode is released. This co-op mode has a team of 3 players going through a “dungeon” in which they’ll need to work together to solve puzzles, survive intense action, and much more. The same day, we’ll get a “legendary map” released for multiplayer and the first post-launch update for Warzone 2.0.

While consoles will see a global release at exactly 00:01 on the 28th of October in your local time, PC will have a slightly different (and earlier) time frame:
