Evil Dead Rise horrifies with an official first look; everything we know about the return of the classic
Bruce Campbell, co-producer of the movie alongside creator Sam Raimi, has shared the first terrifying image of the movie: a bloodied, smiling deadite.
To talk about Evil Dead is to speak about an absolute classic of horror. The franchise, created by Sam Raimi in 1981 with Bruce Campbell as the protagonist, has delivered a couple of entries to the saga throughout the years, and very soon on April 21st, 2023, it will come back to the big screen to spook and gross out moviegoers all around the world.
The new sequel, Evil Dead Rise, was originally slated for a release directly on HBO Max. Thankfully, Warner Bros. decided to show it in theaters after early screenings received high praise. With 5 months to go until we can watch it, we can finally have our first look at it. Bruce Campbell released the first public image of the movie, which shows a bloody woman (presumably a deadite) looking through an eyehole with a sinister smile.

The iconic star of the saga will no longer appear on the movies, since this time he’s joined the production team alongside Sam Raimi. This isn’t the first time we won’t be able to see him covered in blood and dealing with cackling undead, but this may mean he won’t pick up the chainsaw ever again for the camera.
This is noticeable especially because Evil Dead Rise has been revealed as a sequel to the original trilogy and tv series, and not the reboot directed by Fede Alvarez. This original timeline includes Evil Dead, Evil Dead II, Army of Darkness, and Ash vs. the Evil Dead.
The official synopsis says: “In the fifth Evil Dead film, a road-weary Beth pays an overdue visit to her older sister Ellie, who is raising three kids on her own in a cramped L.A. apartment. The sisters' reunion is cut short by the discovery of a mysterious book deep in the bowels of Ellie's building, giving rise to flesh-possessing demons, and thrusting Beth into a primal battle for survival as she is faced with the most nightmarish version of motherhood imaginable.”
