The new multiversal spider-based film from Sony and Marvel will feature an incredibly varied artistic direction, and also offers a new look at Spider-Gwen.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, the long awaited sequel to the oscar winning Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, is getting closer and closer to release, so the people behind it is slowly sharing more details about the film in preparation to it’s summer 2023 launch date. Through an article in Empire, it was recently revealed that the movie will come with a great range of unique universes, something that was shown during its first teaser. Now, we have a new image that shows us Spider-Gwen.
Spider-Man through animation
“The first film had one animation style that dominates the movie. This movie has six,” said returning producer Phil Lord with a laugh. “So we’re taking those tools, adding all the things we learned on The Mitchells Vs The Machines, and then growing them further to accommodate the ambition of this movie. Which is to wow you every time you enter a new environment, and also to make sure that the style of the movie reflect the story, and that the images are driven by feelings, as opposed to some egg-headed art project. Which it also is, by the way!”
“The two that you saw in the teaser trailer were what’s called Earth-50101, which we’re calling ‘Mumbattan’ – that’s based on an Indian comic-book look – and Nueva York from Spider-Man 2099’s world,” said Christopher Miller, who is also a producer on the film. “That’s based on Syd Mead-style illustrations of what the future might look like. There’s also Gwen’s world, which is Earth-65. And that was a watercolour-wash style that’s reminiscent of the covers of her comic books.”
Both producers also helped write the script alongside David Callaham, all of it under the direction of Peter Ramsey and Bob Persichetti, who are also executive producers alongside Aditya Sood. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is set for a release in theaters around the world on June 23, 2023. Its follow up, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, will release on March 29, 2024.
