Valve is giving away one Steam Deck per minute just for watching The Game Awards 2022 on Steam
The company behind Half-Life: Alyx and Steam will give away the highest tier of Steam Deck to lucky registered users, and everyone gets a cute animated sticker as well.
The Steam Deck can now be purchased without need for a reservation, and Valve is celebrating in a special way. In cooperation with The Game Awards 2022, Geoff Keighley’s yearly awards show, the company has revealed they’re giving away “one 512GB Steam Deck per minute of the broadcast” of the show, which this time will also be streamed live through Steam.
“This year The Game Awards is coming to Steam in a big way,” says Geoff Keighley in a special video. “You can watch the show live for a chance to win a brand new Steam Deck. That’s right, Valve is giving away a Steam Deck every minute to someone watching the show on Steam. And that’s not all: our Game Awards hub on steam will have a special sale as always, in addition to playable demos of upcoming games.”
How to enter for a chance to win a Steam Deck
To be able to get a chance of getting away with Steam’s portable device completely free, you only need to watch The Game Awards 2022 through the platform. However, before that you’ll also need to register on their official site. Just by doing this (with no cost whatsoever) you’ll get an animated sticker of a Steam Pal, a cute mascot in the shape of the console, that you can use in the platform’s chat.
Any user from the United States, Canada, the UK, and Europe is eligible for registration. This means that only the people living in regions where the Steam Deck is currently available for purchase can participate.
The Steam Deck is available in three different models. It’s actually a PC designed to be used as a portable console, and with the use of a special docking station can actually be used as a regular PC. A lot of the games available on the Steam Library have already been optimized to be played on this new piece of hardware, but since there’s still some that haven’t, Steam has created a system to tell its users which of their titles work on the console or not.
The Game Awards 2022 will take place on December 8, 2022.
