Amazon Games to publish next Tomb Raider, the "most expansive" in the franchise

Tomb Raider has a brand new home. Amazon Games will be in charge of publishing and assisting in the development of the next installment led by Crystal Dynamics. After the sale of its assets to Embracer Group, the former Square Enix studio has found a new ally in the American giant.

"Amazon Games and Crystal Dynamics today announced they have reached an agreement under which Crystal Dynamics will develop a new multiplatform Tomb Raider title, with Amazon Games providing full support and publishing the game globally," the companies said in a press release.

First details of the new Tomb Raider

Along with the agreement, new details have been shared that clarify the approach that the next chapter of the archaeologist will take. It will be "a single-player, narrative-driven adventure that continues Lara Croft's story in the Tomb Raider series."

We know that it "includes all the elements" for which the series is known; the team seeks to introduce the heroine to "an environment that rewards exploration and creative pathfinding, with mind-bending puzzles to solve, and a wide variety of enemies to face and overcome." All of which will make this installment "the most expansive Tomb Raider game to date."

Its developers insist that the project is still "at an early stage", so it will take some time before we see it in motion. The press release also points out that its development is based on Unreal Engine 5 the latest version of Epic Games' engine. This fact does not take us by surprise. Last April 5, Dallas Dickinson, general manager of the series, confirmed the news as part of a presentation of the graphics engine. Crystal Dynamics joined CD Projekt RED, GSC Game World, and The Coalition to push the development of the new features of Unreal Engine.
