One Piece Odyssey changes Ace’s fate and confirms the Marineford and Dressrosa sagas

One Piece’s new game will let you fight once more to free Ace in Marineford, but this time after the time skip and with the rest of the Straw Hats.

Update:
One Piece Odyssey changes Ace’s fate and confirms the Marineford and Dressrosa sagas

A few months ago, One Piece Odyssey confirmed that apart from the new island were the adventure takes place the game will also allow you to explore “Memoria”, a world constructed from Luffy’s memories. And while back then the announcement was only made for Alabasta and Water Seven, during Jump Festa 2023 they showed off two other places that are sure to make fans excited: Marineford and Dressrosa. In the new trailer you can see the Straw Hats reliving one of the greatest arcs the manga has to offer.

For even more excitement, these are not only simple retellings of the story, but a way to change history in a way. One Piece Odyssey invites you to go back to the past and change things, like in Marineford where you get to use all of the powers Luffy obtained after the time skip, alongside the rest of the Straw Hats (who were at that time spread all over the world). Could Luffy have saved Ace if he had all of the experience he has now? With his entire crew? How has he matured in all this time and what would be his reaction when revisiting this momentous battle?

Bandai Namco has officially said that the ending of the battles in MArineford and Dressrosa will differ from what we’ve seen before. In the original Marineford arc, Luffy fought alongside many other pirates to try and free Portgas D.Ace, Luffy’s brother. In One Piece Odyssey you’ll face this fateful battle again, but this time alongside his crew. On the other hand, the memories of Dressrosa will take you to the domain of Doflamingo. With an enormous bounty upon their heads, the Straw Hat pirates, Sabo, and Trafalgar Law will need to defeat this powerful enemy once again.

After years of musou style adaptations, this JRPG is a breath of fresh air for the fans that mixes original content and loved memories in a very promising way. If you want to taste how this experiment goes, there’s very little time to wait, since One Piece Odyssey is releasing on January 12, 2023 and will have a demo on consoles on the 10th of that very month.
