Now that most streaming platforms are putting ads in their service like traditional TV, Xbox is testing the waters to do the same on Game Pass.

Microsoft has been sending surveys to some of their users that seem to be testing the waters for future changes to the service. Amongst them, the company asks its followers what they would think about the possibility of paying less for Xbox Game Pass in exchange of some disadvantages, like for example, having in-game ads and having to wait six months to enjoy first party titles (currently available on launch day).

It’s quite possible that none of these initiatives materialize, and much less in the short term, but the survey is very clear about what Microsoft’s game division is thinking. The tech giant would be following close on the steps being taken by other subscription services like Netflix or Disney+, which will be making these changes gradually starting from 2023 and will offer exactly what they’re talking about right now: a lower, more accessible price in exchange of a reduced catalog, lower image quality, and ads. We’ll have to see how consumers react and whether these proposals are here to stay.

Games leaving Xbox Game Pass at the turn of the year

Speaking of Game Pass, let us remind you that on January 1st, 2023 several games are leaving the Microsoft subscription at once. You still have until then to give ‘em a try, finish them up or entirely complete them and unlock all of the achievements. We cannot recommend enough that you at least try Outer Wilds, one of the greatest space exploration titles there’s ever been. Here’s the full list:
