One Piece promises a battle between two historical characters and reassures fans about live-action series

One more year, faithful to his appointment with Jump Festa, Eiichiro Oda has been at the event to review absolutely all the One Piece news. The success of the recent animated film, the release of his card game, the release of One Piece Odyssey on consoles in early 2023, how the live-action adaptation that Netflix is doing, and more. The mangaka left nothing unanswered and covered it all.

The most interesting bit was, of course, when he wrote about the manga. He already promised that “that person and that person are gonna be fighting?!” A battle which he exclaims “No Way!!” and that many have already associated with a battle between Kurohige and Shanks. Will Blackbeard end up killing the redhead? For now, there are only theories and lucubrations, but seeing Oda using the word death is not very usual. Quite the contrary. And by the way, the author also assures that he will not finish One Piece soon, even though he has said that his wish is to finish in five years. He does not want to rush and invites us to take it easy.

Eiichiro Oda reassures the fans

In the same statement, the mangaka also talked about the live-action series based on One Piece that Netflix is currently preparing. And we have barely seen anything of the production beyond some set photos. However, Oda wanted to reassure fans about the lack of information:

"The One Piece Hollywood Live action is making progress. For now we have the base footage of Season 1. So much went behind the scenes, but if I’m being honest, the most worried person in the world that this will turn out good is me lol… but it actually looks amazing!!!”

The shooting of the series ended this summer, so now it is in the process of post-production for its premiere on Netflix sometime in 2023, on a date yet to be announced. A production in which Eiichiro Oda himself has participated as supervisor and should guarantee its quality.
