Yoshinori Kitase, producer on Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, has revealed they still have a big announcement to make during 2023.

Update:
Final Fantasy VII Remake’s producer has a “big announcement” of which he cannot speak

There’s no doubt that this new year is going to be exciting for Final Fantasy Fans, since next to the release of the long awaited Final Fantasy XVI you also have big updates about Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, the next chapter in the remake series of the legendary JRPG which will be an exclusive to the PS5. However, it seems like there’s still space for something more, if you can take to heart the words of one of the people leading the series, Yoshinori Kitase.

There’s plenty of Final Fantasy to go around

Whatever news are coming about Final Fantasy VII Rebirth may even be about the release of the game at the end of 2023, but for the moment nothing is confirmed. Anu of the two games are exciting by themselves, but if you take both of them into account it’s even better… and if there’s a third surprise? Kitase celebrated the new year in a blog post on Square Enix’s official website and pointed towards big things to come, with some of them still pending a reveal.

“The development of FFVII Rebirth, which I produce, is also accelerating. How will that memorable scene be recreated? Please wait for the next report while expanding your imagination,” wrote Kitase. “In addition to this, we have a big announcement that we can't say yet. 2023 will be a good year for everyone, and I would like to make FF [fans] excited.”

Anything that we could mention or imagine would be nothing more than pure speculation, since there’s a wide variety of projects related to the franchise that have already been announced. Besides the two previously mentioned titles, we’re also getting a physical release of the Pixel Remaster Collection, which includes remastered version of the classic games (I to VI) and releases at the end of the year on PS5 and Nintendo Switch, with a collectors edition surely on the way. This is why we have to imagine that the company is working on more content for Final Fantasy XIV, but there’s still no news of a new expansion. In fact, it would be a little too soon if you consider that the previous one, Endwalker, was released at the end of 2021.
