The Borderlands movie is going back for reshoots, with Deadpool’s director at the helm

The big screen adaptation of Gearbox’s RPG looter shooter franchise hits a bit of a bump, resulting in a change of director and reshoots.

Update:
The Borderlands movie is going back for reshoots, with Deadpool’s director at the helm

Borderlands, Gearbox and 2K Games’ popular video game franchise, will enjoy it’s very own film adaptation by Eli Roth (Hostel), a film that in theory had already finished filming and was already in the post-production phase. But it seems like they’re taking things back to the drawing board; Borderlands now has a new director, who has already commissioned new reshoots with part of the main cast. We’re talking about Tim Miller, filmmaker responsible for films such as Deadpool, Terminator: Dark Fate, and others. However, all of this has a reason: making the movie more commercial.

A new stage for the Borderlands movie

As reported by The Wrap, director Eli Roth has asked Tim Miller to take charge of the production due to scheduling issues on Roth’s side. It seems that those responsible for the film want Borderlands to be something more marketable. Thus, Miller is bringing part of the cast for two weeks of reshoots to apply several changes to what had already been shot months ago.

Full screen

This small change of plans would not imply major problems for the production of the Borderlands live action movie, a film that includes a striking cast filled with names like Cate Blanchett, Kevin Hart, Jamie Lee Curtis, Edgar Ramirez, among others. Of course, as was pointed out, the possibility of reuniting the cast for reshoots has been quite a feat due to scheduling problems.

The Borderlands movie is looking to be very faithful to the plot of the games, with outlaw Lilith (Cate Blanchett) on the trail of the daughter of one of the most powerful people in the universe. With a script written by Craig Mazin (Chernobyl, The Last of Us), fans have high hopes for this video game adaptation to the big screen. With no specific release date, Borderlands should hit theaters sometime in 2024.
