The Walking Dead reshuffles its zombie universe: the new spin-offs have been delayed

AMC has decided to give their new series in the Walking Dead universe more breathing room, delaying them to launch between 2023 and 2024. Is there too much zombie content?

Update:
The Walking Dead reshuffles its zombie universe: the new spin-offs have been delayed

The zombie universe of The Walking Dead is about to begin a whole new era of content, all of it through numerous spin-offs that come hot on the heels of the main series’ finale this past year. But we have some bad news for fans of the franchise that wanted to go right into watching the new adventures of Maggie, Negan, Daryl, Rick and Michonne. AMC has decided to delay the releases of the new series, even when some of them had been announced for the first half of this year.

The Walking Dead: Dead City, the spin-off with Maggie and Negan at the help, will now release in June of this year instead of May, while the Rick and Michonne continuation series is being moved all the way to 2024 at an undisclosed date.

The Walking Dead reshuffles its releases

We already know that Fear the Walking Dead, the franchise’s first ever spin-off, is ending this year with its 8th season, which will be divided in several blocks to last until the end of the year. It may be because of this that AMC has decided to move up the next productions of the same universe, starting with Maggie and Negan’s journey through a zombie infested New York, which is now to be released in June instead of May as was confirmed before.

On the other hand, Rick and Michonne’s long awaited return will close off their story once and for all, but is now slated to 2024. Only Daryl Dixon’s show has been kept with its original release schedule, with Norman Reedus’ series keeping their release date for the end of 2023, but it’s still possible it too could be delayed until 2024. Either way, it looks like we’ll have plenty of zombies for a couple of years thanks to The Walking Dead.
