HBO MAX

The Last of Us first episode has a nod to the second game only for the very hardcore fans

The TV adaptation of Naughty Dog's video game hides a multitude of nods and references to the original game, although this one takes the cake.

Update:
The Last of Us first episode has a nod to the second game only for the very hardcore fans

The Last of Us, the successful HBO Max series that adapts Naughty Dog's celebrated video game, continues to generate headlines for a number of reasons. One of the elements that draw the fans' attention has to do with the nods and direct references to the original work; or its sequel, as it happens in this case.

The most hardcore fans of Joel and Ellie's story have noticed a wink to the second part of the video game that for most people has gone unnoticed, and it has to do with one of Joel's favorite movies. We warn of slight spoilers from the first episode of The Last of Us in the next paragraph.

Curtis and Viper 2: from the videogame to the series

At the beginning of the episode, among the surprises that Sarah prepares for her father on the occasion of his birthday is a very special movie for Joel, or at least of a genre of which he is a big fan: the B-Action films. The film Curtis and Viper 2 is a ninja film that could well be fodder for the video stores of the 80s and 90s. In the series, an apparently unimportant detail that actually hides much more than it seems; and for that, we have to turn to the PS4 video game The Last of Us: Part 2.

In a mission that Ellie and Dina share in the game, both talk about their plans for that very night. It is at that moment when Ellie says that she plans to watch a movie with Joel, which is none other than Curtis and Viper 2, the same title that appears referenced in the first episode of the HBO Max series. Ellie goes on to explain that Joel loves these kinds of crappy 80's movies, a fondness she herself shares.

Will we continue to enjoy nods to video games throughout the following episodes of The Last of Us? Fans hope so. And so do we.
