Tron Ares: Disney confirms a new movie with Jared Leto and Pirates of the Caribbean 5’s director

Disney is currently in talks with Joachim Ronning to direct Tron’s third movie, a direct continuation of the franchise which will star Jared Leto.

After being announced almost 3 years ago, Disney is showing that they’re set on completing Tron 3 as soon as possible with Jared Leto in a starring role and Joachim Ronning, filmmaker responsible for Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, as director. This has been reported by Deadline and other entertainment media, even revealing some of the first details of Tron Ares, working title of this new entry in the long running science fiction saga originating in the 80s.

Disney wants to release the movie as soon as possible

Everything seems to point out that Tron Ares will begin principal shooting this very summer in Vancouver, with Jared Leto (Morbius, Suicide Squad) in the starring role of a cast that is still otherwise unknown for now. All of it under the leadership of Norwegian filmmaker Joachim Ronning, with which Disney is currently in “advanced talks” that are basically only waiting on confirmation to begin working together. The script has been written by Jesse Wigutow.

Aside from being the protagonist of the movie, Leto will also act as a producer on Tron 3 next to Justin Springer, Jeffrey Silver, and Emma Ludbrook, with Sean Bailey and Sam Dickerman acting as executive producers together.

Tron Ares appears to be a direct continuation of Tron: Legacy, the series’ latest big film that was released back in 2010 which saw Jeff Bridges return to his original role and Garret Hedlund and Olivia Wilde joining the universe as the new focus of the story. With a soundtrack crafted by Daft Punk, that movie was an incredible hit that stunned critics and audiences around the world, but still only managed to gross $400 million dollars globally. Still, with Tron being one of their biggest cult classics, Disney hasn’t stopped trying to continue the franchise.

As of this moment there’s no release date set for Tron Ares, so we’ll have to continue waiting for more news of it to be revealed.
