The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom confirms release date with a new trailer

Fans had been expecting it for a long time, and Nintendo has delivered. During the latest Nintendo Direct, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom closed the show with new information about the game, specifically it’s final release date and an amazing-looking Collector’s Edition.

In the short trailer, consisting of a mixture of gameplay and in-game cinematics and which you can find below, the release date was revealed and confirmed to be May 12, 2023. The footage shown during the trailer also includes quick looks at a wide variety of machines which Link might be able to ride or use during this new adventure, as well as new monster variants and mysterious floating islands all around Hyrule’s sky.

While we didn’t get to see many details of what to expect when the game finally releases, it’s plenty to keep fans excited until launch. As if that wasn’t enough, Nintendo also unveiled a Collector’s Edition that includes a physical copy of the game, a collector’s box, steelbook, artbook and much more. They also showed off a new Link amiibo that includes the strange stone-like arm we’ve been shown in the trailers.

Tears of the Kingdom is almost here

Nintendo hasn’t had an easy time with the Breath of the Wild sequel. The 2017 title became an instant hit in the video game industry, which means that they now have incredibly high expectations to surpass. However, the company is used to surprising players, and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom looks to be a step in the right direction, if not exactly what everyone was expecting. Getting to this spot has taken nearly 7 years of development and a few delays along the way.

Last year, in March of 2022, it was announced that the game would be delayed to extend the development time. It was at that moment that we got “Spring 2023” as the release date, leaving hardcore fans to wait for another long year.

The title of the game wouldn’t be revealed by Nintendo until September of last year, where they also revealed May 12, 2023 as the launch date. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will release exclusively on Nintendo Switch
