How to open doors with symbols in Hogwarts Legacy

Before focusing on the doors themselves, the first thing you need to do is get the arithmetic page that will allow you to solve each and every one of the puzzles in them. You have to go to the Library Annex, in the Astronomy Tower, and right in front of a door with a symbol you will see a chest: inside it is the page that will serve as a guide for all of them. And now that you're ready, let's explain how these puzzles work.

On the page you will see silhouettes of different animals associated with a number from 0 to 9. They are the following:

  • 0 - Owl
  • 1 - Unicorn
  • 2 - Goat (or horned animal)
  • 3 - Hydra (3-headed snake)
  • 4 - Bird on branch
  • 5 - Creature with several legs
  • 6 - Lizard
  • 7 - Octopus (or animal with tentacles)
  • 8 - Spider
  • 9 - Creature with multiple snake heads

Now let's go to the doors with symbols. Inside you will see a board with two triangular diagrams, consisting of a number in the center surrounded by several circles with numbers or symbols of animals. The secret to solving the puzzle is to look at the number inside the triangle, because that is the number you need to get by adding the circles around it.

To give you a clear idea, let's solve the puzzle in the following picture.

You have to solve the two diagrams on the middle board, but to make it clear, we will focus on the one below, the one with the number 4 in the center of the triangle. As you can see, there are several circles around it that show the following: a 0, a 1 and a double question mark (???). The key is to use the mechanisms on both sides of the door, and this time we are interested in the one on the right (???).

All you have to do is look at the Arithmancy Guide page you got earlier and make the following account:

  • We need a 4.
  • Next to the triangle is a 0 and a 1, so the sum of both is 1.
  • Since there is only one circle with a question mark and it is double (??), we use the mechanism on the right to move the animal symbols in the arch above the door (if there was only one question mark, we would use the one on the left).
  • Let's do the math again: we need 4 and we only have 1, so all we have to do is use the mechanism until we get to the animal that adds up to 3, which is the Hydra (3-headed snake), as indicated in the list.
  • 0 + 1 + 3 = 4 Puzzle solved and door unlocked!

In addition, if we had done the puzzle at the top, as you can see this time, there are not only numbers and question marks, but also a circle with an animal symbol, so we would have to consult the list to check how much the animal in question adds up to.
