Top Gun Maverick director Joseph Kosinski keeps the door open for a third movie

Top Gun Maverick was one of the biggest surprises of 2022 thanks to high praise by both the critics and the public, in addition to becoming one of the biggest hits of the year for the international box office. Since then, fans have been wondering if there will ever be a third Top Gun. In January 2023, the producer of the film Jerry Bruckheimer already admitted that he had no idea about a possible third part; now, a month later, it doesn't seem like the situation has changed much. Of course, Bruckheimer himself does not rule it out despite the years that passed between the original film and its sequel.

Top Gun 3: a real possibility?

"We’re just enjoying this one," Bruckheimer admitted to Variety, talking about the possibility of making a third part of the film franchise starringTom Cruise. "I have no idea.It took us 35 years to make Top Gun Maverick.. I’m not gonna be around for another 35 years”, joked the producer.

Recently, the director of Top Gun Maverick, Joseph Kosinski, already discussed the possibility of making a third film: "Is there another story that is compelling enough that we need to go back?" Kosinski wondered. “It seems to me that at the end of this movie Maverick has some gas in the tank. He’s not settling in”, acknowledged the filmmaker.

A high altitude shoot

For the filming of Top Gun Maverick they recorded between 800 and 814 hours of footage, as the editor of the film, Eddie Hamilton, recalled: “Honestly, sometimes it was very overwhelming. There was a day in March 2019 when they had 27 cameras running because there were four planes in the air with multiple cameras and two units filming on the ground, which added up to 27 cameras. And I remember receiving a lot of images the next morning and thinking that this was going to be very difficult.”
