Rainbow Six Siege reveals Year 8 details

Ubisoft has revealed how its team-based shooter is heading into its eighth year, with details on the first season and its new Brazilian operator.

Update:
Rainbow Six Siege reveals Year 8 details

It may not seem like it's been that long, but Rainbow Six Siege is about to celebrate 8 years since its launch. The game that reformulated the tactical shooter inspired by one of Tom Clancy's most important novels to become one of the most important titles outside of Esports, continues to transform itself to deliver the necessary improvements for its fans. On this occasion, through a presentation, we had the opportunity to learn the first details of Rainbow Six Siege year 8.

Year 8: Operation Commanding Force

The new year will bring a number of changes to the game, the most important of which will be gameplay balancing and new measures to prevent cheating and reduce toxicity. First of all, one of the most interesting details presented is that starting with Operation Commanding Force, you will no longer be able to cancel your weapon's reload animation. This is for the sake of realism, as canceling the animation allowed our weapon to reload automatically. Now, if you cancel this animation, only one bullet will remain in your weapon.

As far as cheaters are concerned, one of the features Ubisoft will be adding for console players is the Mousetrap technology. Players who use a certain type of keyboard and mouse to play on consoles will experience a delay in the commands they use in the game, with the goal of "eliminating the unfair advantage that mouse and keyboard players have on consoles". If players who cheat in this way ever return to playing with controllers, this penalty will be gradually reduced.

In terms of toxicity measures, voice chat will receive special attention this time around. This penalty is designed to silence players who abuse their voice chat to prevent "hateful and disturbing content.

Welcome Newcomers

Jumping into Rainbow Six Siege after 8 years can be intimidating, so the company has tried to give new players a chance through Beginner Challenges. These are designed to help new players learn the Operator specialties by providing them with "Newcomer Packs" that include a variety of rewards, including an Operator, upon completing a specialty's challenges.

Brava, Brazil's new operator, launches Season 1

As part of Season 1, we will have the opportunity to meet Nayara Cardoso, aka Brava, an Attacker-type operator equipped with the powerful Kludge Drone. This device will allow her to be a strong element in counter-tactics against the gadgets of the opposing operators, as she will be able to use the rival technologies to her advantage by hacking or destroying them.

Brava stands out from the other operators with a look that sees her with a light outfit in terms of protection, but ready for action on the battlefield. As a visual detail, her outfit features a capybara on her shield, an animal endemic to Brazil. As for her loadout, she will have a PARA-308 or a CAMRS as her main weapon, while her secondary weapons could be a USP40 or a Super Shorty. In terms of her statistics, we find a fast but fragile operator, having a three in speed but a one in health. The idea of this three in speed is that she can easily reach the rest of the squadron after using her drone.

While testing the character, we realized that the Klduge Drone will be an indispensable element for some teams. The most interesting detail was to see how this drone could counter other gadgets and special weapons of other operators and how to take control of them.

Year 8 price

Players who wish to purchase all 4 Battle Passes within Year 8 will be able to do so at a discounted price of $30 between February 20 and March 20. This will also give them 14 days of early access to the new Operators when they are released, as well as exotic weapon skins, a 10% discount in the store, and more. The Premium Year Pass will cost $60 and, in addition to the above, will grant 20 additional Battle Tokens to unlock rewards faster.
