Microsoft signs a deal to bring Call of Duty to Nintendo consoles for the next 10 years
Microsoft will defend itself in front of the European Union in favor of its acquisition of Activision Blizzard, and now they’re bringing Nintendo into the fold.
One of the biggest discussions of 2022 could be entering its final stretch. The announcement of the purchase of Activision Blizzard by Microsoft at the beginning of last year completely shook the video game industry, giving rise to a ton of revelations during the following months due to various disputes, mainly between the North American company itself and Sony. They seem to have a better relationship with Nintendo, since they seem to have accepted an offer for Xbox to bring Call of Duty to their consoles for the next 10 years.
This was stated by none other than Brad Smith himself, Vice President of Microsoft, who has shared the news on Twitter. “We’ve now signed a binding 10-year contract to bring Xbox games to Nintendo’s gamers,” said Smith, hinting that Call of Duty might not be the only game to make the jump from Xbox Game Studios to Nintendo consoles. !”his is just part of our commitment to bring Xbox games and Activision titles like Call of Duty to more players on more platforms.”
However, this tweet is accompanied by an official statement from which something else emerges. It will arrive “the same day as Xbox, with full feature and content parity,” reveals teh statement. “So [Nintendo Players] can experience Call of Duty just as Xbox and PlayStation gamers enjoy Call of Duty. We are committed to providing long term equal access to Call of Duty to other gaming platforms, bringing more choice to more players and more competition to the gaming market.”
D-Day for Microsoft
Meanwhile, today seems like a decisive day for Microsoft, since they will defend their position in the acquisition of Activision Blizzard before the European Union, one of the organizations that has been more severe and less convinced of the deal. It will not be easy, since according to what can be read in MLex, for this defense, its main competitors will be present, namely: Google, Nvidia, Electronic Arts, Valve, and of course, Sony.
Precisely Sony has positioned itself as the main opposing party in this operation, but during all this time others such as Google and Nvidia have emerged, which have ensured that this operation would place Microsoft in a completely dominant position. With which the future of the industry could depend on the results that Microsoft gets this day, since after convincing the EU, it could be easier to do so with the regulatory bodies of the United Kingdom and the USA.
