Activision Blizzard executive mocks PlayStation for refusing Call of Duty 10 year deal

The agreement between PlayStation and Activision Blizzard for Call of Duty is about to expire. As it’s been revealed, the contract will end next year, without the renewal having been initialed under the terms offered by Microsoft. Sony's fierce opposition to the acquisition of the company led by Bobby Kotick has generated all kinds of reactions, such as the mockery that an Activision Blizzard executive has shared on Twitter.

Lulu Cheng Meservey has used a popular meme to portray what in her opinion is a mistake by PlayStation. In the first image, Sony is portrayed as a person riding a bicycle. The cyclist then puts a stick in the front wheel, with text accompanying the image: "Refuses to accept guaranteed long-term access to Call of Duty."

In the final image, the cyclist collapses: "What if we lose access to Call of Duty", reads the illustration. The truth is that the opinions continue to be stagnant, and it doesn’t seem like we’re going to get anywhere soon. Sony has made it very clear that it is opposed to the purchase because it maintains that its position in the industry will be weakened given the importance of the franchise.

Current deal with Sony expires next year

In an interview with CNBC, Microsoft president Brad Smith, revealed that Activision Blizzard's deal with Sony will end next year.

“What we are offering to Sony is the same thing that we have offered to Nintendo and to Nvidia”, that is, a decade-long legal settlement of Call of Duty on their systems. The goal is that when they release a new game for Xbox it will be available on Sony’s PlayStation the same day, on the same terms and with the same functionalities. "It really ensures parity. I think everybody who’s looked at this would say it’s a better deal for Sony than the one they have right now with Activision Blizzard that will expire next year.”

Microsoft was present in Brussels to try and convince the European Union of agreeing to the massive 70 billion dollar deal.
