Marvel is being accused of exploitation for Ant-Man 3’s visual effects

New details have been revealed by SFX workers hired by Marvel Studios about bad working conditions, being overworked, and more, this time during Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania.

Update:
Marvel is being accused of exploitation for Ant-Man 3’s visual effects

It seems that there is no Marvel Studios premiere without corresponding complaints from visual effects employees about the exploitation of their services for long periods of time. It already happened with previous blockbusters of the company and with the arrival of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania to movie theaters it has happened again. This was reported by Vulture, who interviewed three visual effects specialists who worked on the third installment of the Ant-Man series, one of the films with the most CGI of the entire Marvel franchise. And the complaints of those involved are heavy.

Ant-Man 3 is not free from worker exploitation

"Our working conditions are often less than ideal, and Quantumania was just another in a long line," stated one of the visual effects workers, claiming that the situation has been like this for a long time. And it doesn't seem like anything has changed. According to what he said, the majority of resources were diverted to Black Panther Wakanda Forever: “All the money went to that. All the best resources went to that. It’s understandable given the context — with Chadwick and everything and how well the first film did. But it did diminish the ability to carry Ant-Man all the way through.”

“A lot of us are sitting here thinking, The money is there. Why is it not coming down? Marvel spending a bit more money to pay more VFX people wouldn’t make that much of a difference for the executives all the way at the top. But if it comes down to them not being comfortable with their bank numbers and us working until burnout, we lose out every time. Honestly, I equate it to human greed,” said another employee. "AThey’re squeezing blood out of stones. And we’re out of blood.”

These kinds of complaints about working conditions in Marvel Studios have been here for a while, especially with the numerous Disney+ series that have been released in just a few years: “With a lot of these projects being worked on simultaneously, resources become thinner. The quality starts lacking. You can’t expect all of the VFX companies to give the highest-quality work, especially if you’re going to do it on a lower budget”, concludes another Marvel Studios visual effects employee.

The Vulture article adds that work periods of up to 80 hours per week have been implemented for months as if it were already a norm, a situation that is stretching thin quite a large number of workers and that makes it impossible to reconcile professional life with family life.
