The 2022 MLB Draft is set to begin on Sunday night. Here’s what you need to know so you don’t miss your favorite team’s selection of promising new players.
The 2022 MLB Draft will be part of the excitement of the league’s All-Star Week taking place in Los Angeles, and the first round is scheduled to begin on Sunday. MLB has the biggest number of rounds among all American professional sports leagues, and this year’s 20 rounds will take place from Sunday, July 17, through Tuesday, July 19, leading up to the All-Star Game that evening at Dodger Stadium.
The first two rounds will be held on Sunday, rounds three to ten on Monday, and rounds 11 to 20 on Tuesday. All told, 620 players will be chosen in the 2022 MLB Draft.
Baltimore Orioles get first pick
The Baltimore Orioles will have the number one overall pick for the third time in the history of the organization, and the second time within the last four years. Predictions indicate that they could be going for heavy hitter Jacob Berry from LSU.
The Arizona Diamondbacks go next, and they may acquire Druw Jones straight from Wesleyan High School. The young player highly touted to be the number one pick is the son of Braves icon Andruw Jones.
It will then be the turn of the Texas Rangers, who could go after Kevin Parada, a catcher from Georgia Tech. The Rangers are known for preferring to select college players.
