The Silver Slugger Awards are given to the top offensive player at each position in both leagues. Recipients are voted for by MLB managers and coaches and include three outfielders plus one player at each infield position for both National and American Leagues. For the first time, this season has seen the award given to a utility player in each league as well.

There are ten winners making their maiden voyage into Silver Slugger territory, while the team who provided the most fertile ground for the awards was the San Diego Padres, who provided three winners this season.

Teams with multiple winners were the Los Angeles Dodgers, the St Louis Cardinals, the Philadelphia Phillies, and the Houston Astros, who all provided two players to the proceedings.
