2023 World Baseball Classic: Australia team roster | Saupold, Whitefield, Atherton
Here’s how Team Australia’s roster will look for the 2023 World Baseball Classic held from March 8 to March 21.
While Team Australia may be the youngest team in the competition, don’t be fooled into thinking that they are not capable of quality play. Several of their lineup are top MLB prospects, playing high-quality ball in the minor leagues and they will not be overawed by the opposition in the slightest. They will be playing their group games in Japan as part of Pool B, and will have the Czech Republic, China, South Korea, and Japan to contend with.

The biggest blow to Team Australia in the WBC is the loss of Liam Hendriks, who will miss the tournament due to treatment for non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. But their roster is still tight with former Tigers right-hander Warwick Saupold and Angels outfielder Aaron Whitefield leading the charge. This may not be Australia’s strongest roster in its WBC history, but the boys from down under have managed to surprise everyone before, who is to say that they won’t do it again. Japan and South Korea are expected to top this group, but Australia are in with more than a shout.
