2023 World Baseball Classic: China team roster | Carter, Chang, Zheng, Ning
Here’s how Team China’s roster will look for the 2023 World Baseball Classic held from March 8 to March 21.
China has participated in every World Baseball Classic, but some of their early momentum has dulled by the long delay between competitions. Currently ranked 30th in the world, Team China have managed to pull off something of a coup by simply competing. With no major international tournaments since 2019, and the demise of their domestic professional league, they may be rusty, but one thing about the Chinese is that they are always tenacious, infuriatingly so.

Team China’s lineup features only one player from MLB, Angels right hander Alan Carter. With a roster made up of ageing greats and young prospects, look for China to fall back on their old reliable ways. They will use small-ball tactics to slap single after single into the shallow outfield, plus bunt, walk, and steal when needed. Low-risk, grinding out runs, the traditional Chinese baseball strategy. Who knows? It has been known to be effective in the past.
