Take a look at which MLB team has won the most All-Star Games as the 2024 showdown approaches at Globe Life Field, highlighting a historic rivalry.

Alright baseball fans, get ready because the 2024 MLB All-Star Game is almost here! This year’s showdown is set for Tuesday at Globe Life Field in Arlington, the Rangers’ home turf. With a Texas twist in everything from the player uniforms to the food, it’s bound to be a blast.

Last year in Seattle, the American League took a tough 3-2 loss, so they’re coming in hungry for a comeback. The National League, on the other hand, is aiming for back-to-back wins, something they haven’t pulled off since their 2010-2012 streak.

Does the All-Star Game Still Affect the World Series?

Since 2017, the All-Star Game is just for fun and bragging rights. Home-field advantage in the World Series now goes to the team with the best regular-season record, although a large number of fans want to bring back the meaning into this clash.

Lone Star All-Star

This isn’t the Rangers’ first rodeo hosting the All-Star Game. They did it back in 1995 at The Ballpark in Arlington. That game saw the NL edge out the AL with a 3-2 win, thanks to a clutch pinch-hit homer by Jeff Conine, who snagged the MVP title. Fun fact: all three of the NL’s runs came from solo homers by Craig Biggio, Mike Piazza, and Conine in three straight innings; and those were their only hits of the game!

This marks the fifth time the Lone Star State has hosted the All-Star festivities. Along with the two games in Arlington, Houston has welcomed the All-Stars three times (1968, 1986, 2004), though never as an AL team.

Though Globe Life Field is new to hosting the All-Star Game, it’s no stranger to big events, having hosted two World Series; the neutral-site 2020 series and the Rangers’ own 2023 championship run.

Who’s Dominated the All-Star Game Over the Years?

The American League holds the edge with 47 wins to the National League’s 44, plus two ties. The AL has been particularly dominant lately, losing only seven times since 1988 and just four times since 1997. They even had a 13-year winning streak from 1997 to 2009!

The last time Arlington hosted the Midsummer Classic, the lineups were stacked with future Hall of Famers; 12 in the starting lineups and 16 total between the two rosters. Let’s see if this year’s game can bring some of that same magic!
