Aaron Boone in the hot seat: Yankees fans had enough and want the coach fired

What is wrong with the Yankees? Expectations were high at the start of the season (sound familiar?), but the team’s defense and bullpen have not been up to par. The Bronx bombers’s slump can be blamed on a lot of different things: injuries, poor starting pitching, erratic hitting, and an unreliable bullpen.

Summer slumps are nothing new in New York and, although the players have to make the plays and drive in the runs, the coach has to keep the team motivated through the dog days of summer. Boone has led the team to the playoffs every year since 2018 with the exception of the disappointing 82-20 season in 2023. The Yankees bounced back and made it to the World Series last year, but lost 4-1 against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Let’s start with what we just mentioned above: The Yankees made it to the World Series last year. Boone is one of the best managers in the league and has successfully coached the Yankees since 2018. That said, there’s a lot of pressure on the Yankees HC to not only make it to the World Series, but win it. That hasn’t happened since 2009.

What has fans worried are the little things: The Yankees look like the Bad News Bears at times, with little-league fielding mistakes and, more recently, decisons on bringing in certain pitchers from the bullpen have been questioned. Last night Devin Williams blew another lead:

The lack of discipline and the poor performances from star players is causing Yankees fans to doubt the team manager. Only the Yankees front office knows what’s in the future for the team and Boone, but if things don’t improve soon, Boone might not make it to the end of the season.
