The Boston Red Sox are off to a steady start this 2023 MLB season. One bright spot for them, however, has been Adam Duvall, who has started his season in a blinder. He has hit .455 with four home runs and 14 RBIs over his first eight games with Boston.

After missing much of last season due to a surgery on his left wrist, Duvall has been making up for lost time both in the field and with the bat. But in Sunday’s game against the Detroit Tigers, he left the game after injuring that same wrist.

A shallow fly ball to center field by Tigers first baseman Spencer Torkelson was charged by Duvall, who at first appeared to make yet another spectacular diving catch. And then the ball squirted away as Duvall writhed on the ground in pain.

Replays showed that as he hit the ground, his wrist appeared to roll under him as his glove seemed to get caught in the grass. Duvall nursed his wrist and was taken out of the game.

There is still no update, and likely won’t be until sometime on Monday, with Duvall undergoing X-rays at the moment.

Left fielder Rob Refsnyder had a front-row seat to the incident, with it happening right in front of him. “He almost made a spectacular play. That’s a big guy out there. I don’t think people really realize how big he is and how fast he moves. Looks like he was fully extended. He’s all-around a really, really good ballplayer so we’re all hoping for the best.”

Duvall was replaced by Raimel Tapia in center field, and all of the Red Sox team and fans are hoping for the best. Just as the Sox head into a series with the hottest team in the league at the moment, the Tampa Bay Rays, they could use all of the help that they can get.
