Albert Pujols tipped to become the Angels’ new manager
The former Dominican player spent 10 of his 22 years in the Major Leagues with the Angels and could return to take on the manager’s role.

The 2025 MLB season wrapped up weeks ago for most teams, and now the focus shifts to what’s next. Six organizations are currently searching for a new manager — and one of the most intriguing openings is with the Los Angeles Angels.
The Angels parted ways with Ron Washington due to health concerns, leaving the manager’s seat vacant. Now, Albert Pujols — a franchise icon who spent a decade in Anaheim — has emerged as a serious contender to take the reins.
According to reports from ESPN, The Athletic, and FOX Sports, Pujols met with Angels GM Perry Minasian in St. Louis on Thursday night to discuss the position. While no formal offer has been made yet, the meeting signals that the team is seriously considering the future Hall of Famer for the role.

Pujols has long expressed interest in managing at the big-league level, and this could be his breakthrough opportunity. He’s already gained experience in the Dominican Winter League with Leones del Escogido, and his profile is set to rise even further — he was recently named manager of Team Dominican Republic for the 2026 World Baseball Classic.
Interestingly, Pujols remains under contract with the Angels through 2032. When he retired in 2022, a clause kicked in that tied him to the organization for personal services. He’s participated in the last three Spring Trainings, strengthening his ties to the club and making him a natural fit for the managerial role.
MLB teams looking for new managers in 2026
The Angels aren’t the only team making changes. Five other clubs are also on the hunt for new leadership heading into the 2026 season:
- San Francisco Giants: Let go of Bob Melvin after missing the playoffs.
- Atlanta Braves: Brian Snitker chose not to renew his contract.
- Colorado Rockies: Finished the season with interim manager Warren Schaeffer but are exploring external options.
- Washington Nationals: Miguel Cairo’s situation mirrors Schaeffer’s — interim status, but no long-term commitment.
- Baltimore Orioles: Tony Mansolino is out, and the team is evaluating fresh candidates.
- Minnesota Twins: Parting ways with Rocco Baldelli as they begin a full rebuild.
With so many vacancies and high-profile names in the mix, the 2026 season could usher in a new generation of MLB managers — and Albert Pujols might just be one of them.
