Toronto Update:

Alejandro Kirk of the Toronto Blue Jays continues to make history in Major League Baseball. On Friday, in the opening game of the 2025 World Series, the native of Tijuana became the first catcher born in Mexico to start in the Fall Classic.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Alejandro Kirk became the first Mexican-born player ever to hit a home run in a World Series game. The Tijuana native from Baja California Norte capped off a nine-run inning for the Blue Jays with a deep shot that also brought Vladimir Guerrero Jr. home. Kirk connected on a low fastball from reliever Anthony Banda and sent it 403 feet to straightaway center field.

It was Kirk’s fourth home run of the postseason. The Mexican slugger hit two in Game 1 of the Division Series against the New York Yankees, and his third came in Game 3 of the American League Championship Series against the Seattle Mariners. Overall, that sixth inning produced nine runs for the Blue Jays, who took an 11–2 lead over the Dodgers.
