Andrés Muñoz is worth every million! The Seattle Mariners extend Mexican pitcher’s contract
The young Mexican secured a $7 million option for the 2026 season while reaffirming his key role as an elite closer in the Major Leagues.

The Seattle Mariners are doubling down on one of the most dominant arms in baseball. The team has officially exercised its $7 million club option to retain Mexican closer Andrés Muñoz for the 2026 season — a move that signals both trust and ambition.
Muñoz, a two-time All-Star, is coming off a stellar stretch: a 1.92 ERA over the past two seasons and 60 saves during that span. In 2025 alone, he racked up 38 saves, allowed just two home runs across 62.1 innings, and played a pivotal role in pushing the Mariners to Game 7 of the American League Championship Series.
Although manager Scott Servais opted for a different reliever in that decisive game, Muñoz’s postseason performance left no doubt — he’s the guy you want on the mound when the pressure’s highest.

A contract built for longevity
The deal goes beyond the 2026 guarantee. Muñoz’s contract includes performance-based incentives and team options worth $8 million in 2027 and $10 million in 2028, plus up to $2 million in bonuses tied to his workload and results.
Originally debuting with the San Diego Padres in 2019, Muñoz quickly gained attention for his triple-digit fastball. After undergoing elbow surgery and being traded to Seattle in 2020, he’s evolved into one of the most reliable closers in the game.

Why it matters
For the Mariners, locking in Muñoz is a clear statement: they’re serious about building a championship-caliber bullpen. For Muñoz, it’s financial security and the comfort of staying with a franchise that believes in him.
Bottom line: it’s a win-win deal that reinforces Muñoz’s role as a cornerstone of Seattle’s future — and proves his value goes far beyond the stat sheet.
