Benjamín Gil stays on as manager of the Mexican National Baseball Team

On Friday afternoon, the Mexican National Team Committee officially announced that Benjamín Gil will stay on as the manager of the Mexican Baseball Team. The announcement was accompanied by the incorporation of the experienced Rodrigo López as the general manager.

With the help of Benjamin Gil, this Mexican team achieved a historic high in the 2023 World Baseball Classic when they finished third after falling in the semifinals to eventual champions, Japan. The crowd was so lively, the raucous atmosphere so loud that even MLB itself called it “the best game, to date, in the history of the tournament.”

Now joining the team is Rodrigo López who has eleven years of experience across six major league teams. “Thanks to the support and trust you have placed in me,” said López. For his part, Benjamín Gil commented: “Being in charge of the Mexican National Team again is a great honor in my career. I am here to continue putting Mexican baseball at the top. Our goal is that the successes we have are reflected in more followers of the King of Sports in Mexico. The Mexican team has inspired people and we want to continue doing so.”

The first edition was in 2015, when Mexico finished in fourth place, and was held again in 2019 when Mexico placed third. The tournament will take place again this year and Mexico has drawn Group A, debuting on Saturday, November 9 against Venezuela.
