Update:

Former New York Yankees outfielder Brett Gardner has revealed his son Miller has died at the age of just 14.

Along with wife Jessica, Garner announced the tragic news, and its mysterious circumstances, in a statement on Sunday.

Miller Gardner dies aged just 14: what was the cause of death?

“With heavy hearts we are saddened to announce the passing of our youngest son, Miller. He was 14 years old and has left us far too soon after falling ill along with several other family members while on vacation. We have so many questions and so few answers at this point, but we do know that he passed away peacefully in his sleep on the morning of Friday, March 21st”.

“Miller was a beloved son and brother and we cannot yet comprehend our life without his infectious smile. He loved football, baseball, golf, hunting, fishing, his family and his friends. He lived life to the fullest every single day.”

Miller Garnder’s love for football was highlighted in a clip which surfaced on social media last fall, when he was playing for a school in South Carolina. The teenager received a pass and ran it in for a touchdown, the fact he was wearing the No. 11 jersey, his dad’s Yankees number, not lost on viewers.

Yankees and Aaron Boone send messages of support to Gardner

Both the Yankees and Aaron Boone, Gardner’s former manager, have issued statements of support to the 41-year-old, who retired in 2021. He won the World Series with the Bronx Bombers in 2009, which was his second season.

The Yankees emphasized their “unconditional and absolute” love for the Gardner family, describing the tragedy as an “unimaginable loss”. “Heartbroken” Boone, meanwhile, counts his former player as family. “Even though Brett’s been gone for a few years, that doesn’t stop.”
