Cal Raleigh breaks through as Mariners move to the brink of ALCS
Seattle’s all-around effort proved too much for Detroit as the Mariners moved within one win of the ALCS.

The Seattle Mariners went into Detroit and took a key 8-4 win over the Tigers in Game 3 of the American League Division Series. Seattle’s bats came alive with three home runs and solid work from the bullpen. Game 4 is set for Wednesday, October 8, at 3:08 p.m. ET at Comerica Park.
Gilbert leads the way
Logan Gilbert earned the win after an impressive start, striking out seven and allowing just one earned run. Detroit’s Jack Flaherty was tagged with the loss after being pulled in the fourth inning.

Rain delay at Comerica Park
First pitch came nearly three hours late due to rain, finally getting underway at 7:08 p.m. ET. Seattle broke through in the third inning with RBI singles from J.P. Crawford and Randy Arozarena. Crawford’s liner to left was misplayed by Riley Greene, while Arozarena ripped a hard grounder that brought in another run.
Seattle’s power surge continues
In the fourth, Eugenio Suárez launched a solo home run to extend the lead, and Cal Raleigh added an RBI single. Detroit got on the board in the fifth thanks to a small rally capped by a sacrifice grounder from Kerry Carpenter.
Crawford wasn’t done yet. The shortstop added a solo shot in the sixth and later drove in another run with a sacrifice fly in the eighth, scoring Luke Raley to make it 6-1.
Raleigh gets his first postseason homer
After leading MLB with 60 home runs during the regular season, Raleigh finally went deep in the playoffs. The Mariners catcher crushed a sinker from Brenan Hanifee over the right-field wall at Comerica Park, putting Seattle up 8-1.
Tigers rally late but fall short
Detroit showed some life in the ninth, scoring three runs to close the gap. Spencer Torkelson drove in two with a double, and pinch-hitter Andy Ibáñez added an RBI single to make it 8-4 before Seattle closed things out.
With the win, the Mariners now hold the upper hand in the ALDS and are one victory away from advancing to the ALCS.
