Carlos Rodón suffers disaster in first start with the Yankees
Carlos Rodón made his first start as a New York Yankee, but saw his night end in defeat as the Chicago Cubs rose to the challenge at Yankee Stadium.
The New York Yankees (48-41) were looking forward to Carlos Rodón’s first start after handing him a six-year, $162 million contract, but the 30-year-old pitcher left them disappointed.
Unfortunately, after spending time on the disabled list, first with a left elbow strain and then a stiff back, Rodón debuted with a 3-0 home loss to the Chicago Cubs (41-46). The left-handed pitcher threw 5.1 innings, allowing four hits, two runs, and notching up two strike outs while giving up two walks.
The first run given up by Rodón came in the third inning on the back of a 410 foot home run by Cody Bellinger. Chicago increased their lead in the fifth inning after Rodon walked both Trey Mancini and Miguel Amaya and then gave up a single to Nico Hoerner.
In contrast, former Yankee James Taillon started for the Cubs, throwing eight complete innings, allowing only one hit, while walking two and striking out four to pick up his third win of the year.

No help from the hitters
The loss may be chalked up to Rodón, but the Yankee bats didn’t help him out at all. Only Gleyber Torres and Franchy Cordero were able to connect while Giancarlo Stanton and Billy McKinney both managed to reach base on walks.
Players who had duck eggs included Anthony Volpe who went 0 for 4, Anthony Rizzo who went 0 for 3, Harrison Bader who went 0 for 4, Josh Donaldson who went 0 for 3, and Kyle Higashioka who went 0 for 3.
