Clayton Kershaw had suffered a minor setback in late June dealing with soreness in his left arm, but on Wednesday, Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts provided a positive update on the future outlook for the ace starter.

Clayton Kershaw's debut in 2024 is approaching

Roberts confirmed that Kershaw will throw a bullpen session prior to Wednesday’s game against the Arizona Diamondbacks at Dodger Stadium and has put the soreness that delayed his return to the mound behind him. “He’s gonna throw a pen,” said Roberts. “He looks really good. I would argue that he looks even better than he did even when he was kind of making his way back a few weeks ago, at this point in time. So I’m really encouraged by it. Just watching him stretch it out, he stretched out yesterday, came back today, didn’t feel anything. Feels good.”

The 10-time MLB All-Star returned to action on Tuesday and is expected to join the first team in mid-July if all goes well to make his season debut.

“I think having this little couple day reset should help,” Kershaw told the Los Angeles Times. “Obviously, every time you don’t feel well, you worry because you’ve already been through it. But it was a good result overall. The schedule is still in our favor. It could have been a lot worse, no doubt.”

Kershaw commented on the small setback he had in June that delayed his return last week. This is the first time in his illustrious career that he has had to be out of the lineup for so long due to an operation he underwent last September. The last time he pitched was in the first game of the series against the Diamondbacks in 2023 in the first round of the postseason and what was the worst start in his entire major league career.
