Did the Yankees secure their postseason berth?
The New York team defeated the Seattle Mariners at T-Mobile Park and thus guaranteed at least a chance to play in the Wild Card Series.
The New York Yankees (89-63) became the first MLB American League team to secure a spot in the 2024 postseason. The New York team defeated the Seattle Mariners (77-74) 2-1 at T-Mobile Park, thus guaranteed at least playing in the Wild Card Series.
The game’s first run came thanks to Jasson Dominguez’s incredible ability to run the bases in the second inning. The rookie received a walk to first and stole second base. However, he managed to reach the hot corner thanks to an error by catcher Cal Raleigh. The Dominican walked home thanks to an RBI single by Anthony Rizzo.
The Mariners tied the game in the eighth inning on Justin Turner’s solo homer. The Seattle first baseman found a Clay Holmes slider and hit it out of the park over the left-field fence.
New York took the lead in the top of the 10th inning on Anthony Rizzo’s double. Dominguez was on second base under the designated runner rule and could score on his teammate’s hit. Things looked dicey in the bottom half, but Ian Hamilton turned in a double play that involved striking out Randy Arozarena and taking out Julio Rodriguez, who was distracted at the hot corner. It all ended when the reliever hit Turner for the 30th out.
