Record-setting contract for a reliever
The Dodgers agreed to a three-year deal worth $69 million, setting a new record for average annual value for a player at Díaz’s position.
Díaz’s impressive track record
Díaz spent the last six seasons with the Mets, recording 144 saves and 538 strikeouts. Last season, he posted a 6-3 record with a 1.63 ERA, proving he remains one of the game’s most dominant relievers.
The Mets had offered Díaz a three-year, $66 million deal, but he chose free agency instead. The Puerto Rican closer also attracted interest from the Toronto Blue Jays before ultimately focusing on negotiations with the Dodgers.
