Estados Unidos Update:

There’s growing concern in Los Angeles as Shohei Ohtani was forced to leave the mound Wednesday afternoon due to discomfort in his throwing arm.

What injury has Ohtani suffered?

The Japanese two-way superstar took the ball as the Dodgers’ starting pitcher against the Cincinnati Reds but was pulled in the fourth inning at Great American Ball Park with what appeared to be an elbow issue.

After giving up a single to Noelvi Marte in the fourth, Ohtani threw back-to-back wild pitches that allowed the Reds infielder to advance all the way to third. He then issued a walk to Tyler Stephenson, putting runners on the corners. That’s when Dodgers manager Dave Roberts made the call to the bullpen, removing Ohtani as a team trainer walked him off the field. Lefty Anthony Banda came in to relieve.

Ohtani threw 51 pitches over three full innings, with just 32 going for strikes. The Reds tagged him for three hits and two earned runs. He struck out four and walked two in the abbreviated outing.

Despite leaving the mound, Ohtani remained in the game as the designated hitter. Through six innings, he was hitless in three at-bats with one strikeout.

Ohtani’s pitching numbers in 2025

Wednesday’s start marked Ohtani’s seventh appearance on the mound this season. He’s thrown 15 total innings in 2025, posting a stellar 1.80 ERA while allowing just three earned runs. He’s struck out 17 and walked five, with opposing hitters batting .246 against him.
