Dodgers sign free agent Kyle Tucker on MLB-record contract

Not content with back-to-back World Series titles, the Los Angeles Dodgers have strengthened with the biggest move of the offseason so far.

CBS Sports reports that the Dodgers have signed outfielder Kyle Tucker, ranked as the top free agent in MLB this year. Tucker joins after a single season with the Chicago Cubs, following a long spell with the Houston Astros.

The 28-year-old has agreed a four-year deal worth $240 million. That works out at an average annual value (AAV) of $57.1 million, comfortably the highest in MLB history.

Tucker was drafted by the Astros in 2015 and made his MLB debut in the 2018 season. After a relatively quiet couple of years, Tucker had a breakthrough season in 2021 and was named to the All-MLB team.

He followed that up by winning the Golden Glove in 2022 as the Astros clinched the World Series. Tucker also gained the first of four consecutive All-Star selections.

Tucker turns 29 on Sunday and likely still has plenty of baseball left in him. His availability had been one of the main talking points of free agency and the likes of the Toronto Blue Jays and the New York Mets were thought to be in for his signature.

For both those teams, losing a top player to the Dodgers will sting. But the loss will be particularly painful for the Blue Jays, who suffered an agonizing World Series defeat to the Dodgers in 2025. Already, it looks like the Dodgers are poised to go for a historic three-peat in 2026.
